horseMissing Sodus

We came out to Sodus and, while we were there, we visited the Cracker Box Palace Faire. We learned a lot, got to see all the farm animals which, being that my grandfather was a farmer, I loved to see. There was no chasing ducks for me. (They were fun to play with when I was little, but, boy, can they can really mad and come back at you!) The Belgian horse is the most immense horse I have ever seen. Oscar, of course, got lots of attention, but he loves it.

We stopped by the Sodus Free Library to find that Carol Garland had gone to visit her new granddaughter Sarah and would be coming back the following Monday. Glad to hear Carol is over her forever cold.

The search for the Renaissance Woman is almost complete. The search will be over on June 15. She is the woman who gives of herself, who calms fears, soothes souls, nurtures the young, and cares for the old. She juggles many things at once, but drops them all when an emergency arises - only to calmly resume her balancing act when the crisis is over. She is a woman of action, involvement, generosity and compassion. Information (rules & regulations) can be picked up at Bay Haven 8538 Greig St. Call 483.2666 for more information Contact: Rosemary Murphy

News of the Chambers meeting: The Sodus Comprehensive (Master) Plan committee met on June 6 to finalize the Implementation Strategy. Four areas addressed were: 1) Timeframes for implementing and completing each action; 2) Identifying the agency, organization and/or public official responsible for the implementing the action; 3) Providing a cost estimate for each action if applicable; 4) Identifying potential funding sources. Action items from each chapter of the plan were reviewed and checked for accuracy and completeness by the committee. Additions and corrections were done as needed. Future use land maps were studied and corrected to reflect the vision the committee sees for our area.

The second part of the agenda was to consider the public comments received during the public hearing and to consider revisions to the draft plan. Some of the comments were incorporated into the plan and other specific action plans will be kept and used during the implementation stage. The few corrections that were needed will be completed by Stuart Brown Associates and forwarded to the committee for final approval. Once the committee gives final approval to the plan, it will be forwarded to the Town and Village Boards. The Boards will receive the plan and schedule a public hearing within 90 days. A target date of mid-September is planned for the public hearing.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can Pick Your Own Strawberries at Burnap's Farm, Lake Rd., Sodus. Website: www.burnapsfarmmarket.com

Sunday (June 12) is Farmer's Fest Day at Captain Jack's in Sodus Point; Greig St.; Antique Tractors, square dancing, hay rides, and more.

Cooking out this weekend? Try something different:

Aloha Burgers

Recipe By : TASTE OF HOME - FEB/MARCH 1996

8 pineapple slices
3/4 cup teriyaki sauce
1 pound ground beef
1 large sweet onion, sliced
1 Tablespoon butter or margarine
4 lettuce leaves
4 onion or sesame seed buns, split and toasted
4 slices Swiss cheese
4 bacon strips, cooked

Drain pineapple juice into a small bowl; add teriyaki sauce. Place 3 Tablespoon in a resealable plastic bag. Add pineapple and rotate to coat; set aside. Shape beef into four patties; place in a 8' square baking dish. Pour the remaining teriyaki sauce mixture over patties; marinate for 5-10 minutes, turning once. In a skillet, saute onion in butter until tender, about 5 minutes. Grill or broil burgers until no long pink. Place pineapple on grill or under broiler to heat through. Layer lettuce and onion on bottom of buns. Top with burgers, cheese, pineapple and bacon. Replace tops; serve immediately.

Ababy on swinglso, while we were in Sodus, we visited the Pike family and got to meet Paige for the first time and she is more adorable in person, though she is sweet in the pictures. Oscar got jealous at the sight of something else small in a tee shirt.

The Apple Shed should be opening next week, so watch the papers for it. If you are up for a nice ride to Fairville check it out in person.

The Kraft Shack will be having more fun classes coming up, so I'll keep you up to date on those.

We have enjoyed coming out this summer and visiting. There are so many fun things to do this year and so many more coming up. Have a great weekend. While you are outside sitting with the kids on the big porch swing, it might be fun to read a few stories together while you enjoy the breeze blowing through your hair.
