Early settlers ....

The first thought of early settlers was a home for himself and family. The walls were of logs, notched and fitted with openings in between chinked and plastered with mud. Roofs made of bark and floors of split logs, when time permitted that luxury, otherwise floors were packed earth floors. The doors as mentioned previously were hewn planks, hung upon wooden or leather hinges. Glass and nails were difficult and costly so greased paper often was used for windows. The sleeping apartment was a loft reached by a rough ladder. Furniture and dishes were in harmony with the surroundings and not infrequently the work of his own hands. Wooden troughs or plates, plain tables, flagg bottom chairs, often blocks of wood answered as seats. Shelves supported treasured blue-edged plates, and cups and saucers of pewter. In one corner, sooner or later, was installed the tall clock to take the place of the noon-mark. The high post bedstead with the cord bottom was seen, also card and spinning wheels.

Guests who came to the museum on a hot, humid June 14 took part in a repast of frosted raspberry brownies and chilled wild strawberry ice tea. Conversation stirred around a picnic table decorated in red, white and blue ... and the pesky flies we encounter at a picnic. In the background, a tape of 'thundering rainstorm' was playing, to add to the atmosphere. What a nice way to enjoy an afternoon.

Dick and Millie Loucks, son Larry and wife Vicky, and son David and wife Suzanne, returned from a trip to Florida to spend time with son Dick, wife Sandy and their two daughters. The youngest daughter was celebrating her graduation from high school. It was a great time. Grandpa Dick Loucks, son Larry, son Dick and granddaughter Leanna all went skydiving at Titusville from 15,000 feet. It was very exciting and all agreed to do it again sometime. However, Grandpa Loucks had to invest in a new pair of glasses as the other pair disappeared during his dive. What's Next Dick?

Nostalgia is like a grammar lesson ... you find the present tense and the past perfect.

Congratulations to Mimi and Conrad Richards on the birth of their granddaughter, Nadia Grace Quader, who weighed in at 9 lbs. 11 oz.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of you!!
