Want a Fresh Air Child?

Summer vacation has arrived. Thanks to the many families in New York and throughout the northeast, more than 5000 New York City children from low-income neighborhoods enjoyed free vacations at the home of a volunteer host family last summer.

The Fund is seeking more New York families to host a Fresh Air child this summer.

'A lot of what you do for the kids are simple things, the things you do every day in your yard and your neighborhood,' says a Fresh Air host. Last summer, nearly 1,500 Fresh Air children visited families throughout New York state.

'You do things that you can't do in the city, like fishing, camping and playing out in the woods,' explains one Fresh Air child. There are no financial requirements for hosting a Fresh Air child. Hosts can select the gender and approximate age of their visitor. First-time visitors are six to 12 years old, and reinvited youngsters may participate in the program through age 18.
