Meetings planned at Newark Library Newark Library will be holding informational meetings that will help inform the voters in the Newark School District about the vote on June 14. The proposition to be placed on the ballot is to create a new district to fund the library. Currently, the library receives the majority of its funds from the Village of Newark. The library's charter defines the village as its service area. Library Director, Elly Dawson indicated that seventy five percent of the library's usage is by people who live in the school district, not just the village. Dawson added, 'The creation of a new district gives the community the opportunity to have a larger population fund the library. Library usage indicates that this new district would be a more fair indicator of who benefits from the Newark Library.' The informational meetings are held at the Newark Library. People who can't attend any of the scheduled meetings are encouraged to contact Elly Dawson at 331.4370 so your questions can be answered. Meetings include a luncheon on March 8 at noon and a St. Patrick's Day Tea on March 17. Please call ahead to make reservations for these two events. Other informational meetings are open with no reservations on March 16, 22 and 24 at 7 p.m. The June 14 vote will also include the election of a seven library trustees. Anyone 18 years of age and older who is a resident of the Newark School District is eligible to run for trustee. Petitions are available at the Library's main desk for anyone interested in serving on the board.
