Missing Sodus I'm beginning to think that the only way we will see spring anytime soon is from the inside out. The Dollar Stores have loads of spring flower garlands and 'bushes' to put in the vases. Look for a spring tablecloth and maybe some tulips in a pot for the center of the table. Try forcing bulbs to come out in the house, or buy a spring plant like a hyacinth to put on the shelf. The smell is heavenly. Whatever you do, try not to look outside but when you have to leave. Bundle up tight because spring is just inside, so far. The Sodus Master Plan meeting scheduled for 2/28 was postponed until 3/21/05 due to the predicted snow storm. Now, those of you who have the luck of the Irish runnin' through your veins, do you have your decorations up and have the green ready for the 17th? And those who are not Irish can have fun with it as well. I am Irish and was amazed in looking at some of the recipes. There is either tons of lard in things or liquors, so needless to say, I went with the kiddie recipes. Not a spot of booze in them. St. Pat's Goodies by Penny Warner Have some green fun with the kids this St. Patrick's Day by making these yummy treats. Be sure to invite your Leprechaun friends! Leprechaun's Shake
Pour all ingredients into a blender and whirl until smooth and green. Serve with a shamrock. Ask your friendly McDonald's Leprechan if they will be havin' the Shamrock Shakes. Sometimes they do and they are really good, but you have to like mint. A small one might be a good place to start. This recipe sounds good and is from the beautiful Hawaiian Islands: Chocolate Crispy Cookies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sift flour and resift with baking soda and salt. Beat margarine and sugar until smooth with electric mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix flour mixture into the creamed mixture on low speed. Gradually fold in the cereal and chocolate chips. DON'T MIX WITH MIXER! Drop by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake about 10-12 minutes or until slightly browned. Makes 4-6 dozen. The people who went on warm vacations last week aren't being seen running back for the airports when they took a peek at this week's forecast. Ralph Everdyke's son, Reggie, and his family went to San Diego. John Castle went to Florida. (I don't see any sunshine. Maybe they haven't opened the can up yet?) Today at 2 p.m. the Annual Women's World Day of Prayer service will be held at the First Baptist Church, East Main St., Williamson. Refreshments will be served following the service. All women of the area are invited. Tonight (Friday, March 4), there's another Lenten Fish Supper at Fairville Fire Hall, 4:30 until ? Tomorrow (Saturday, March 5), there'll be a Chicken BBQ at Williamson Fire Hall; take-outs only 2-5 p.m.
Can you help or know of someone who could? The Wayne County Humane Society has an urgent need for foster care providers for cats and kittens. Foster care providers help alleviate overcrowding, and make it possible for staff to properly care for animals with special needs. Foster care providers are vital during unusual events. Major renovations to the shelter, cruelty cases involving large numbers of animals, and breeding season are examples of events that require a large foster care network. Consider fostering a pair of kittens for a month. Foster care is a great way to help out for a month or two. Adult dogs and cats are accustomed to having homes, and can deteriorate quickly in a shelter environment. Consider taking an animal home for a few weeks. A short break from shelter life could do a world of good. Help out an old timer. Sometimes animals are sheltered through particularly sad circumstances, such as the death of the owner. It is fairly common for these
Not a lot going on... a bit too cold to want to do to much but hibernate in that warm spring-decorated house and read books with the kids. Pretty soon, everyone will be able to get out and have fun. If you have events, or anything you'd like to share, please send it along to me mgoodcooke@yahoo.com (I know what the Pike family in Sodus is up to... they are spoiling Shawna and her new baby Paige. Have fun...)
