Have you ever seen a bluebird?

bluebirdAt one time the Eastern Bluebird was so prevalent in New York State that it was chosen as the official state bird. Today, there are fewer places for bluebirds to build their nests. But you can help. Bluebirds will return north soon, and you can create a box for them to use as a nest.

Bring the whole family to the Wayne County Museum Saturday, March 19, and build a bluebird nest box. The 4-H Youth Development program will provide a number of educational activities to teach youngsters about these beautiful birds.

Girl Scouts can earn their bluebird patch by participating in this workshop.

Completed nesting boxes will be donated to the County Museum or mounted at another local park. If you would like to take your box home to mount, the completed kit can be purchased for $10.

Station #1 - Construct a bluebird nest box

Station #2 - All About Bluebirds: Learn what makes a bird a bird, how to spot a bluebird and make your own birds nest

Station #3 - Eat Like a Bird: Enjoy a tasty snack bluebird-style.
