Wildlife nesting boxes available

As an effort to promote Backyard Conservation, the Soil & Water Conservation District of Wayne County is making available Wood Duck Nesting Boxes, Bluebird Nesting Boxes and Bat Houses.

The Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) is one of the most colorful, yet secretive, species of waterfowl. Preferring to nest in wooded areas near open water, this species offers hours of enjoyment to waterfowl enthusiasts, in addition to effectively increasing local Wood Duck populations.

The Soil & Water Conservation District also has Bluebird Nesting Boxes available. The Eastern Bluebird is the official New York State Bird and it is captivating to watch this bird nest in your own backyard or adjacent field.

Bat Houses are also available. A single Brown Bat can consume between 3,000 and 4,000 mosquitoes in a single evening.
