Wayne Hills ready to open

The Wayne Hills Country Club, 2250 Gannett Road in Lyons, is gearing up for the 2005 golf season, which opens in April.

'Wayne Hills is one of the premier golf courses in the Finger Lakes Region, and I plan to make sure that this tradition is continued,' stated course superintendent Michael Johnson.

Johnson, who until October 2004 has served as assistant superintendent, outlined his plans for the course to the Board of Directors at a March meeting. Also at that meeting, Johnson introduced his new assistant, Kyle Rogers. Both Johnson and Rogers are graduates of the Finger Lakes Community Colleges program for landscape development.

C.J. Britt, President of the WHCC Board of Directors, reported that the Board was looking forward to working with Johnson and Rogers. 'This partnership brings a new level of professionalism to the management of the golf course. Their presence, plus the return of Tim Phelps as PGA Professional, will be a winning combination for the 2005 golf season,' Britt stated.

Wayne Hills' 18-hole championship course, which will open for its 46th season this year, has been a favorite for golfers from throughout the region. Because of an excellent drainage system, the course will be one of the first to be up and running.

'As soon as the snow is gone, we will be evaluating how quickly we can open for business,' said Johnson.

Club Steward Kathy Fischette and her staff will open the restaurant on Friday, March 25. The popular Friday night dinners are always a welcome sign that the golf season is just around the corner. For restaurant information, call 315.923.4135.

Membership fees are among the most reasonable in the region, and there is a new membership special that will no doubt attract additional members in 2005. For information about membership call Rhayna Arliss at 315.923.7795. To check on course conditions call 315-946-6944.
