Discover Wolcott Americans are proud of their heritage. Historic properties - buildings, structures, objects and sites are tangible links with the past that help provide a sense of identity and stability. Many communities recognize the value and diversity of their rich heritage by protecting their important historic resources, ranging from buildings and districts to landscapes and archeological sites. By looking at the buildings in your own neighborhood, you will learn about the history that surrounds you and discover that every community has an important story to tell through its buildings. Why is that church so old? Was that house really a tavern? How come the mill is next to a canal? Is that barn really a landmark? Get to know your community a little better - where it came from and where it is going - by taking an 'arm-chair' tour of Wolcott's historic architecture. An illustrated slide talk is planned for May 12 at 7 p.m. at Leavenworth Middle School on New Hartford Street, Wolcott. Cynthia Howk, Architectural Research Coordinator for the Landmark Society, is the guest speaker. May is National Historic Preservation Month, with the theme 'Restore America: Communities At A Crossroads.' The program is sponsored by Wolcott Historical Society.
