Open house planned in Fairville

Plan now to spend an interesting Sunday afternoon in Fairville: food, fun, displays, demonstrations.

This will be the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Open House Sunday, May 15, from 11 to 4, at the Fairville Fire Hall, Route 88N, Newark.

This is an opportunity for the citizens of Wayne County to learn more about how the many parts of the EMS system and other community organizations work together to ensure your safety and well-being.

Some of the organizations that plan to have displays and demonstrations set up during the day are:

Wayne County Public Health; Office of the Aging; Victim Resource Center; Wayne County Sheriff Child Safety seat inspection from 11 - 2; W.H.A.L.E. program ;

ViaHealth of Wayne; Poison Control Center; Coast Guard Auxiliary information on Boater Safety Courses and Vessel Safety inspections;

Mercy Flight Central pending availability - from approximately 1 - 2 p.m.; American Red Cross information on Disaster Preparedness and Home & Personal Safety; Wayne County ALS system flycar; Finger Lakes Regional EMS Council; Various ambulance agencies and other organizations will have additional demonstrations and displays, such as blood pressure checks, etc.

Some special events for kids are also planned

In addition, food and beverages will be available for sale. Bring your friends, your family, a tour group. See you ALL in Fairville on May 15!

This Open House is planned to celebrate EMS Week What is that? The week of May 15 - 21, 2005, has been designated as National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week by the American College of Emergency Physicians. This event is planned to honor and express appreciation to the paid and volunteer professionals who provide lifegiving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Emergency Medical Services team consists of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, emergency department physicians and nurses, law enforcement personnel, educators, administrators, and others.

This year's EMS Week theme celebrates the 3Rs that describe EMS: Ready, Responsive, and Reliable. EMS is Ready because it is available anywhere, at any time. It is Responsive to all kinds of medical emergencies despite weather conditions or hazards. And EMS is Reliable, serving the public with well-trained volunteer and paid professionals.

EMS is a vital part of every community, but recognition of its contribution may be lost in the broader focus on fire, police, public health and homeland security. EMS Week is important to bring together local communities to honor the more than 750,000 EMS providers nationwide and to raise public awareness about important health and safety issues.
