Happenings Thanks to all of you who purchased tickets on the afghan offered by the Marion Historic Association. This lovely robe was donated for the raffle by Ellen Rich, and we thank her for the gift. Winner of the afghan is Jennifer Devlin. Just like in days past, during a drive on Witherden Road, I saw 'a cowslip through the fence.' On May 23 the United Church will hold a Chicken & Biscuit Dinner. On May 20 the East Palmyra Christian School will be holding their Spring Choir Concert at 7:15 p.m. The Bands Concert is this evening at Newark Middle School at 7:15. Bob, Gail and Roger Schutt just returned from vacationing in Mt. Airy, NC, the hometown of Andy Griffith. They also took a trip to the top of Pilot Mountain where we could see for miles. They had a really good time! The Masons of Marion Lodge No. 926 are having a Chicken BBQ on May 14 serving from 3 o'clock 'til gone. The price is $7 for adults and $3.75 for children ages 6 through 12. The ladies of the Eastern Star will have a pie sale at the same time, so come on out for a delicious barbecue and homemade pies. For more information or advance tickets, call Art Ertel at 926.4958. I had a wonderful Mother's Day. We had a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, including cranberry sauce. Of course, we had a couple of new dishes to try, ending all with strawberry shortcake. We were happy to have our children and grandchildren seated wherever there was space. I received loving testimonials and gifts, with reminders that they were also for my upcoming birthday! All had a chance to choose from a list of jobs that needed to be done around the house and yard. Just a note to tell you that the leeks are up behind the garage. See you at Hunneybears Market & Garden Center, located at 4088 Park Drive, Marion, will be holding their Spring Open House on May 14 from 9 to 6 and May 15 from 10 to 4. We'll have doughnuts and refreshments (while supplies last). Bring the kids to plant their own flower. Door prizes for all. The ice cram parlor at the Marion Pharmacy is open 3 to 10 p.m.
