This was one of those weeks that if you were going to do any gardening you had to do it between raindrops and with a jacket on. (Even I am getting tired of looking at the piles of soil and mulch I have in the driveway. Now, wouldn't you think some nice neighborhood children would offer to move that for me?)

We came out to the Sampling Sodus event at the Wallington Fire Department. I did pretty well remembering where it was.

(You can see the pictures and read about it online tomorrow.)

It was really nice to see everyone again, we always feel uplifted after we have visited. No time to visit this time, but we will soon. (We don't want Shawna's baby to be on the way to pre-k before we see her.)

The Chamber's next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 2 and will be at the Williamson-Sodus Airport. Everyday Gourmet will bring wraps, potato salad, beans, chips, and drinks, with dessert. The price will be $10 per person. Call Mary Jane Mumby to make your reservation, 483.4067.

Sunny Lemon Bars
( Who would have guessed a pouch of sugar cookie mix got these bars off to a deliciously sweet start?)

Crust

1 pouch Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
1 stick butter, margarine or spread, melted
1 egg Filling
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4 cup lemon juice

Topping

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Heat oven to 350F. In large bowl, stir together crust ingredients. In bottom of ungreased 13x9-inch pan, press mixture evenly. Bake 20 to 30 minutes or until light golden brown.

biking Meanwhile, in same large bowl, stir together filling ingredients except lemon juice. Stir in lemon juice. Pour mixture over warm crust. Bake 25 to 30 minutes longer or until top is light golden brown. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 6 rows.

All kinds of fun things going on this Memorial Day weekend (even in the rain):

Tomorrow is the 3rd Annual Garden Club Plant Sale, 9 - 1 at the Sodus Point Fire Hall. The Garden Club of Sodus Point is hosting it's annual Plant and Baked Goods Sale & Raffle. This year's prize is a Container Garden.

Memorial Day Art Gallery around Sodus Point - Visit participating businesses that will showcase pieces of art created by local artists.

Tuesday was an exciting day with the arrival of the President. On Monday, I had taken my husband to the airport and, while there, saw a huge blue jet. As it turned out, it was part of the President's group - U.S. Air Force C-17, here a day early. (Well, of course how would they get the President's limo and the entourage of cars for the secret service? I guess I thought rental cars. Though it would be fun to see the President in a Mustang convertible, it wouldn't practical.)

pooch Even though Greece-Athena School is in my backyard, I decided to watch the President's arrival from a less chaotic place - my couch. It was fun watching the President on television knowing that he was so close.

The businesses looked so nice - big banners and signs welcoming the President. The Rockcastle Florist looked patriotic with the red, white, and blue flags and decorations. It must have been fun for them getting ready for the big event.

But now its business as usual. People are still talking about how, either they had the opportunity to see the President, or about friends and family members that had. I hope President Bush enjoyed his trip. Who knows? Maybe he'll be back .

If you have something to share about the President's visit, your summer plans, or a coming event, please write to me
