Quilt Sale in Lyons The quilters group of First Lutheran Church in Lyons will hold a quilt sale at the church on Broad Street in Lyons on November 4 (10 to 4) and November 5 (10 to 2). For sale will be both hand and machine pieced quilts. Some of the quilts are hand-quilted, while others are tied. Questions: 946.9251. This group was started over 30 years ago, with the goal of making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and Church World Service, both of which were supplying quilts to needy people around the world. Since that time, the group has given away over 1000 quilts. Most of those quilts have gone to Lutheran World relief. Many others have been given to local fire victims, and victims of natural disasters in the United States. Recently, a large box of quilts was shipped to Mississippi for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Much of the fabric used by the group has been donated to them. However, they have other costs, such as thread, batting and postage. Proceeds from this sale will help with these expenses. The group is now ecumenical, with members from much of Wayne County. Some of the quilters are over 90 years old. They meet at the church every Wednesday morning to work on the quilts. New members are always welcome. Copyright
