Sour Sitrus Society band includes locals Area students are members of Syracuse University's Sour Sitrus Society, one of the only completely student-run basketball pep bands left in the nation. The Sour Sitrus Society has been a crucial part of the SU basketball experience since 1970. Andrea Rommel of Newark is a sophomore majoring in music education in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and School of Education. She plays in the flute section. Elizabeth DeTorio of Lyons, a freshman majoring in communication sciences and disorders in the College of Arts and Sciences, plays in the flute section. David Stokes of Newark, a freshman majoring in aerospace engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, plays in the clarinet section. A team of student musicians, representing almost every major in the university with over 100 members in total, Sitrus plays at every men's and women's home basketball game and travels with both teams to the Big East and NCAA tournaments. But when they 're not traveling or playing for SU home games, they're a group that reaches out to make a difference in the Syracuse community. Sitrus has a long-standing history of service to the community, including playing at the Make-A-Wish Foundation's annual SU fundraiser, performances for and with local school music programs, and most recently by heading out to Signature Syracuse after-school music program, which offers music lessons and enrichment opportunities to underprivileged youth in the Syracuse area.
