Training planned for Hurricane relief workers As the American Red Cross continues providing support through mass sheltering and feeding operations in the Gulf Coast region, the Wayne County Chapter has participated in the relief efforts locally by providing assistance to 12 families that have evacuated from the Gulf Coast region. The Chapter is training about 35 volunteer disaster relief workers who'll be heading to the Gulf Coast area sometime over the next three months. 'We currently have three volunteers in the effected areas. Upon their return, National Headquarters will be asking for additional volunteers to replenish the 20,000 volunteers that departed during the first week of the operation,' said Disaster Coordinator Woody Seufert. If you are interested in helping in the Gulf Coast region as a disaster relief volunteer, the Chapter is holding two additional training sessions. The first will be held on October 5, 11, 13 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The second session will be October 18, 24, 26 from 6:30-9:30. Participants MUST attend all three nights. All classes will be held at the Chapter House located at 165 E. Union St. in Newark. The American Red Cross will also be accepting donations for Hurricane Katrina through the 1.800.HELPNOW, www.redcross.org, and through donations sent to the Wayne County Chapter, 165 E. Union St. 'We are doing our part locally to raise funds, train relief workers, and provide immediate assistance for evacuated victims of this catastrophic event,' said Executive Director James Love.
