There is a nip in the air that seems to be getting much more nippy. I can't bring myself to say (cold). Funny, isn't it? If we were coming from winter, 50 and 60's would be warm and we'd be taking off the jackets. Wish we were coming from that direction.

The houses look so nice with all the pumpkins and decorations and the stands are just plain fun. So many things to do, buy and eat. There's nothing like a day of hayrides, picking out the perfect pumpkin, the smell of fresh doughnuts.

Tomorrow, October 22 is the Fall Extravaganza at Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Join the fun, enter a contest, eat delicious food, go for a hayride, meet the animals, hear a scary story teller, visit our psychic or play a game! Bring the kids in costume and enter The Costume Contest at 1. Decorate a pumpkin and enter it in our 'Pumpkin Art Contest' at 2. Devise a way to 'chuck a pumpkin' as far as you can - Pumpkin Chuck - 3. Enter your favorite Apple Recipe dish in the 'Apple Bake Off' at 4 with an auction immediately following of goods entered. Head to Alasa Farms in Alton.

Also tomorrow is Lukacs Pottery Open House & Sale. Tour a working pottery studio and shop for unique, hand-crafted gifts of pottery, jewelry, blown glass and wooden toys and candles. Look for it on the right as you enter Sodus Point on Route 14. Refreshments and cookies served.

At the Kraft Shack:

BEADED PURSE - Two nights Tues., Oct. 25 & Tues., Nov. 8, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. You will be making this tiny purse from bugle and seed beads. This is a lot of beading so you will have homework to do before the second class, therefore if you don't have time in your schedule to do the homework (about 1 hour per night) don't take this class. $25 includes all

Halloween Parfait

3 boxes instant vanilla pudding (enough to make 12 one-half cup servings)
1 teaspoon red food coloring
3/4 teaspoon yellow food coloring
One 9-ounce package plain chocolate wafers
6 cups milk
Chocolate syrup to taste
One 8-ounce can mandarin oranges, drained

Combine pudding mix and milk in large bowl as directed on the package. Refrigerate until firm. Crush chocolate wafers into crumbs, using a food processor, or put the wafers into a zip-lock bag and crush with a rolling pin.

Combine red and yellow food coloring in a small bowl. Stir into pudding thoroughly, until pudding is orange. Layer pudding with two layers of chocolate crumbs in a parfait cup or glass. Top each layer of crumbs with chocolate syrup, to taste before adding the next pudding layer. Top each parfait with mandarin oranges and additional chocolate wafer crumbs.

halloween train We knew it would be happening soon... Ralph and Betty Everdyke took off for the warmer weather (just like the birds.) Here is what Ralph had to say about his trip down:

Hi Everyone: Well we landed in New Port Richey this afternoon about 4:45PM. We left Newark at 6:15 on Wednesday. On the way down we were lucky with the weather and the traffic. It drizzled a little bit but not enough to bother. The traffic was okay except just after we got on Rte 81 by Harrisburg all of a sudden we started going 5 or 10 miles an hour or not move at all. After about 30 minutes of this we came upon a bunch of police cars and a tractor trailer that had taken a nose dive into a deep ditch. I would imagine the driver is in bad shape if not dead. We got to Rocky Mount, NC about 5 PM. We left there at 5:45 this morning and I just got on the highway and followed the tractor trailer. Most of the time I had to go 80 miles per hour to keep up with them. The old buggy did pretty well even with the high speeds I averaged about 27.6 miles per gallon. In most places on the way down gas prices were as high or higher than in Rochester. Down here they are a little cheaper. The condo looked in good shape when we arrived and everything is working well. Of course the Commander In Chief had a couple of things I had to do. Now I think I will have another manhattan to calm my nerves. Betty and Ralph

Spiderweb Munch

This crispy snack is decorated with a thin piping of white icing. A candy spider on top would complete the image for a creepy Halloween treat!

2 cups NESTLE TOLL HOUSE Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1/3 cup powdered sugar
3 cups toasted rice cereal
4 NESTLE 100 GRAND Candy Bars
1 small tube white decorator icing or gel

PLACE morsels and 3/4 cup peanut butter in large, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute 30 seconds; stir. Microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Add sugar; stir vigorously until smooth.

PLACE cereal and chopped 100 Grand in large bowl. Add 1 cup melted chocolate mixture; stir until evenly coated. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Using small metal spatula, shape into 10-inch circle with slightly raised 1-inch- wide border. Pour remaining chocolate mixture in center of circle; spread to border.

FOR SPIDERWEB: PIPE concentric circles with decorator icing on top of chocolate mixture. Using wooden pick or tip of sharp knife, pull tip through icing from center to border. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firm. Cut into wedges.
