Nearly 1000 tires disposed of last week

On October 14-15 the Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) held a tire collection day. Sixty one people from across Wayne County registered to drop of tires. A total of 985 tires were collected. People from 11 of Wayne County's 15 towns participated.

The SWCD decided to collect unwanted tires on an annual basis after finding 60 tires illegally dumped into a local stream. According to Rob Williams, Manager of the SWCD this program provides the public with a way to properly dispose of unwanted tires and we continue to receive very positive comments from the participants. The tires are then taken to a local recycling facility where they are used in the steel recovery industry.
