Sending Shelter Boxes to Gulf states The disaster in New Orleans and the Gulf states is almost beyond comprehension. Wolcott Rotary Club sent aid immediately. The Wolcott Rotary Club is one of 32,000 clubs of Rotary International, which has a Shelter Box program for a planned response to unpredictable disasters. The Executive Director of Shelter Box USA is Beth Palmer, a summer resident of Sodus Point. The Wolcott Club has ordered one box and is hoping, with community assistance, to send more. The need is urgent. Tens of thousands of people are going to need shelter for a long time. Boxes cost approximately $900 each. The Shelter Box effort now has hundreds of boxes on the ground in Texas staging areas and hundreds more are being custom packed in England for this disaster. Arrangements are being made with the USAir Force to fly the boxes to Texas. Each box will have two tents, capable of sleeping 10 people each, water purification tablets, and tools and equipment for basic needs. Donations may be made to the Wolcott Rotary Club, P.O. Box 26, Wolcott, NY 14590 and marked specifically for Shelter Box Program. No amount of money is too small and will be gratefully received and forwarded. Copyright
