New name sought for Sodus hospital

The new owners of the former Myers Hospital in Sodus are asking the public's help in naming the new senior living community that will occupy the 17-acre property.

Mark and Craig Welker's vision for the property is a scenic and relaxing retirement community, initially consisting of 80 independent and enriched living units, with cottages and patio homes in future plans.

Via Health currently owns the property but has accepted the Welkers offer to purchase the vacant hospital and attached medical building.

The property is surrounded by trees and located close to Lake Ontario. Names have been narrowed to Arborview Heights or Lakewood Heights.

You are asked to vote online at www.parkwoodheights.com

or at ballot boxes located at local business throughout Sodus. Voting ends September 15, and the new name will be announced shortly thereafter. Ballot boxes can be found at Paton's Market Place, Sodus Free Library, Curves, Sodus and Sodus Point Town Halls, Sodus WCTA and the Sodus HSBC branch.

Welker is managing member of Parkwood Heights, a successful and active senior living community in Macedon. Parkwood Heights will serve as the model for the new campus in Sodus. Locally owned and operated, the Parkwood Heights community offers seniors several housing options. The 122-acre campus located off Route 31 in Macedon offers new homes, senior apartments and enriched services for persons age 50 and over.
