Williamson Come-Unity Center is having an open house Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2 to 4. The location is 7140 East Main Street.

What a glorious Festival Day!! Hometown folks and out-of-town folks crowded around and enjoyed the activities, food and music and the greeting of old friends. Well over a hundred interested, community-minded folks paraded through 'Jennie's House.' Many, if not all, commented on the work that had been realized in the fireplace room. Kids loved the mystery of finding the back staircase and the fun of going up the front hall stairs and ending in the kitchen. Some even explored the 'cellar' as part of their tour. Blessings! to those volunteers who assisted in helping out at our two historic establishments on September 10. Eddie Sidler, Gordon Adriaansen, Priscilla Flack, Barb DeWandel and Nancy Smith. I do wonder why outside food vendors are at our Marion Festival. The Hometown Hots were from Lyons. (Is there a fund to supplement our local groups who didn't realize their imagined financial intake?)

The next official opening of the Marion Museum is November 19 with a display of cross-stitch from 10 to noon. Call me if you have some unique work that you would like to share.

Volunteers Needed! Care Net Pregnancy Center offers free pregnancy tests and peer-counseling. If you are interested in serving through this evangelical ministry, please come to the Volunteer Training Seminar Sept. 17, 19, 22 and 24. For information, call Care Net, 597.2233, or ask for Dave Pray.

Kudos to the Macaluso family for donating the new Holy Water Font at St. Gregory's.

An antiques show is planned today and tomorrow, 9 to 5, at 4024 North Main St.

Habitat Golf Tournament is planned for Sept. 26 starting at 1 p.m. at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club; Shotgun Start, Scramble Format. $100/golfer includes golf, cart, pig roast, and $5 credit in pro shop. Deadline is Sept. 12; limited to the first 72 golfers. E-mail mwilliams@wctafcu.com or call 800.724.9282 x3339. Support Wayne County Habitat for Humanity.

Chalk Dehumidifier: A blithe little bundle of chalk hung in a closet will absorb excess moisture and keep clothing fresh and dry. Mount a hook in the closet out of the way of clothes or linens (to make sure chalk doesn't brush against fabric). Fasten a rubber band around a dozen pieces of chalk, allowing enough loop to hang chalk from hook.

One early-summer housekeeping task in colonial America was to re-stuff all the mattresses with freshly mown hay, hence the phrase 'to hit the hay.'

On August 31, classmates and spouses of the Marion Class of 1956 had a get-together at the Quality Inn in Newark. Present were: Suzanne (Bliek) Stresing who was visiting her family, Laura and Art Tierson, Jeanne Beecher, Annie and George Dickson, Lynne and Joy Frizelle, Rose Mary Scharles, Betty Palmer, Jeanette and Doug Wessie, Barcy and Sieglinde Smith.

Nick Hasbrouk on the HS Soccer team scored three goals, including the winner with less than three minutes remaining, to lift Marion to a 4-3 victory over visiting Sodus in Wayne County soccer last week. Johnson scored the other goal for Marion.

The girls soccer won over Webster Christian 4-1.

While researching 'Old Roads' that are no longer used, (A map is at the Marion Museum) I found some of our streets had other names as: Maple Ave. was called East St. and Buffalo Street was West Street. Then Union Street was called Poplar Ave. and lower Union was called Vinegar Street. South Main was named Palmyra Street and the road from Reeves Road to DeNeering Road was called Clover Street. - Call me with your remembrances or corrections.

More than 65 million cell phones are stockpiled in U.S. households creating 30,000 tons of potentially hazardous waste. The reuse or recycling of used cell phones helps safeguard the environment, a positive community benefit consistent with our educational objectives. Please continue to pass the word. There is no cost to East Palmyra Christian School to participate in this program. Cell phones in any condition can be dropped at the school office or at ALPCO Recycling in Macedon. By donating your old cell phone(s), you are eligible for a tax deduction as a 'donation in kind.' Contact Donnette Boucher at 926.2740 or d-boucher@rochester.rr.com with questions.

Sept. 17, 1942: Early Marion - A camp fire meeting and roast at the Crane farm opened a season of activity for the local Boy Scouts last Friday evening.
