Grand re-opening at Sodus store
By Melissa White
my sisters side door

flowers My Sister's Side Door had its Grand Re-opening at the end of August. Since we were unable to attend, we went to see the new shop last September 10. The outside of the building is a pretty mauve and so inviting. It makes you want to see what's inside.

As we walked in, the ladies looked so happy in the new place. Cindy stood behind a roomy desk that is different from any I've ever seen before. In staying with the tradition of My Sister's Side Door, which used to be entered at the side of the building, many things have side doors, or doors that are sideways. The desk has a beautiful wood door as the front of it which is a cute and creative idea. Throughout the store, there are displays on side doors... in fact, the jewelry display is a screen side door.

As you walk through the shop, you are so impressed in the way things are laid out and how happy the sisters are about the new addition, but it came with its share of little setbacks. The re-doing of the front part took months to finish, with a fire in an upstairs apartment, the fear of losing everything. I'm sure it entered their minds as they watched firefighters put out the flames. But the girls were blessed and the water damage could be taken care of. Since they hadn't moved into the front part of the shop at that time, their merchandise was fine and the part of the shop they had added on to didn't have any problems.

When you walk into the shop there is no sign of a fire. In the front part, there are many things, including the jewelry and a display of fresh cut flowers. You wander through and find a large assortment of candles on a quaint wooden shelf - the smells of candles and potpourri while you listen to beautiful soothing music and explore the many fun displays. You experience no rushing, no bright lights, or anyone pestering you to shop faster.

pottery My Sister's Side Door has dish gardens, as well as the cut flowers and rooms of unique gift ideas. The girls are friendly and welcoming, and the store is as friendly as they are.

The store, which is owned by Cindy Gilchrist, is located on 16 E Main Street in Sodus. It is a special place filled with unique things that are perfect for gifts or for your own display at home. You can call the girls for more information on booking your Girls' Night Out Party at 315.483.1088.

Since fall is a time for burning candles and making our homes cozy on those chilly fall days, it might be a nice time to visit My Sister's Side Door - pick up a nice scented candle, some pretty things for the center of the table and some cut flowers to make your home more homey. It could be another welcoming Fall tradition. You just never know the treasure that is inside until you walk through My Sister's Side Door (through the front door).
