Fun & fitness groups forming in Sodus

His Hands Community Center is offering free exercise groups daily for all fitness levels. All you need to bring is comfortable clothing and shoes to join the fun and improve your health. There are morning and evening groups forming. Past participants ranged in age from ages eight to 84. Groups are small and informal.

Join the fun at 5312 Route 104, (near Redman Road), Sodus. Call the Center at 589.9277 for more information about the group start times for your fitness level.

The new food pyramid guide recommends:

At a minimum, do moderate intensity activity for 30 minutes most days, or preferably every day. This is in addition to your usual daily activities. Increasing the intensity or the amount of time of activity can have additional health benefits and may be needed to control body weight.

About 60 minutes a day of moderate physical activity may be needed to prevent weight gain. For those who have lost weight, at least 60 to 90 minutes a day may be needed to maintain the weight loss.

Children and teenagers should be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day, or most days.

The exercise program is progressive and open to people of all ages. Beginners group starts with only 15 minutes of exercise and advanced classes last for one hour. This fits squarely within the new recommendations for exercise.
