Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

My sisters and I visited our nephew, Todd, in California last week. He was the perfect host, showing us all the highlights and taking us to wonderful restaurants. We saw the Pacific Ocean, Grauman's Chinese Theater, attended Ellen's TV program, and The Price is Right. Exciting! We stopped at the Cheesecake Store, and our hotel had a pool and a hot tub! But, I must admit it was good to be back home in Marion.

The leeks are up behind the garage, and they have spread since last year.

May 12 - the last Roast Beef Dinner of the season at the Marion Legion Home on Witherden Rd., 5 p.m.

Why don't the residents at the Drumlin Estates recycle, as the rest of us do?

The Sears Roebuck homes exhibit at the Marion Museum was well attended. Can you help me add other homes and information for our files?

Heard of a new sandwich - called grilled Hershey Nut Sandwich. Made with half a plain Hershey chocolate bar and a teaspoon of chopped peanuts between two slices of bread, buttered on the outside, then grilled.

May 8, 1939 - School News - We have been learning the names of the wildflowers that grow in this vicinity. We have enjoyed the many pretty hepaticas, spring beauties, dog tooth violets, Dutchman's breeches and trillium brought in by some of the bus children. Donald Young brought some frog's eggs to school. Richard Hermanet's white rabbit spent a day with us last week.

CROP Walk - May 7. You can take part in this opportunity to 'help CROP stop hunger,' both locally and globally. Pick up a walker's kit from Kate Leenay at St. Gregory's or Joanne Amato at St. Anne's and start getting your sponsors. The walk will start from the Palmyra Village Park and most will be on the Canal Towpath. Everyone is welcome to walk. Questions - call Mary at 597.4571.

'A watched pot never boils, but an unwatched pot boils over.'

May 5 - Roller Skating Party, sponsored by the Marion PTA, 7:30-8:00 p.m. in the Elementary School gym.

May 2 - Marion Student Council Prom at Blue Heron Country Club for juniors and seniors.

Hunneybears is open for the season. Time to get your plants and trees and accessories for the season!
