I hope you all had a nice Easter Sunday.

The leaves are coming on the trees. I'd say Spring has finally sprung and so many fun things to do.

I got word that Al Dobbin went to Halifax, PA to visit his son and family.

The next regular Sodus Chamber meeting is May 4, Thursday, at 6 p.m. at Nick's Restaurant. Meetings are open to the public, just call for seating, 483.4067.

May 5 - May 7 is the Spring Shopping Fling: 20 businesses from Sodus, Ontario, Wolcott and Williamson. Each store will be serving refreshments and a special surprise for each shopper. See what these Wayne County Shops have to offer.

Beginning May 1 is the Paws for A Cause fundraiser sponsored by the Wayne County Humane Society.

Friday, May 5, begins the 2006 Spring LOC Derby. www.loc.org

The Derby ends on May14.

Saturday, May 6 begins the Wayne County 5GrandSlam and Merchants Challenge Youth Derby. For registration information call 800.527.6510. Derby will continue through August 20, with an Awards ceremony on Saturday, August 26 at Sodus Point Fire Hall.

French Breakfast Muffins

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.

2. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Make a well in the center of the mixture. Stir together egg, milk and 1/3 cup melted butter. Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir until just moistened (batter may be lumpy). Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

3. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Meanwhile, combine 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon. When muffins are finished baking, dip tops of muffins in the melted butter, and then in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Serve warm.

These are a really big hit. One time to make them is, after your kids have sleepovers and you are trying to come up with some kind of breakfast at least most of the kids will like.

Just because it's nice out, don't forget to go to the libraries and take out some of their new book selections. We will have rainy days and storytime is always good for those, fun before bedtime stories and of course sitting on the porch or front step. In Sodus, we used to get out a bunch of books and sit on the bench in the side yard. It was fun and a number of the neighbor kids would come over to sit on the grass and listen as well. Reminds you of the lemonade kind of summer days... just laid back and enjoying a good story.

Nice weather for a walk along the beach picking up buckets of pretty stone. Do you have a memory of a favorite summer activity you used to do as a kid? Send it along to

I think we'll find we all did different, yet similiar things.
