Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

The Adriaansen family reunion was July 30 at the home (and pool) of Rod and Helen's. Rog and Gen's family was in charge of the menu and festivities. The kids enjoyed the pool, and boy was it warm. The 'older folks' sat in the shade and watched the accident scene at the Red Apple Facility. Highway was closed (except for those going to the reunion) and the power was shut down for awhile.

On July 19, the 1945 Marion High School class had their reunion at the Log Cabin Restaurant in Macedon. Present were Bob and Eleanor (Boss) Shepard, Al and Wanda Viele, Ed and Eleanor (VerPlank) Nevil. Ralph and Betty (VanKouwenberg) Everdyke, Donald Hyman and friend Dee, Rog and Gen Adriaansen, Clara (Mouton) DeNearing, Lloyd and Arlene (Moshier) VanHaneghem. Greetings were sent from Gordon Morrison, Evelyn Heinaman Bundy, Raymond Ward from Phoenix, Ariz., Herb Kennett from Bradenton, and advisor Charlotte VerPlank. They will be having another reunion next year.

'Happy Birthday Wishes' to Florence DeNeering from her friends in Marion.

I still need some names of the Scout troop picture printed a while ago.

Brian and Jill Adriaansen and boys, Craig and Derek, spent a few days last week visiting Sesame Street vacationland in Pennsylvania.

Here is the recipe for Spaghetti Fruit Salad.

1 cup confectioners sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 lb. spaghetti, broken into two-inch pieces
1 can (20 oz.) pineapple tidbits
3 medium tart apples, diced
1 carton (8 oz.) frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Maraschino cherries, halved

In a saucepan, combine sugar, eggs, lemon juice and salt; cook and stir over medium heat until temperature reaches 160 degrees and mixture is thickened, about 4 minutes. Cool completely.

Cook spaghetti according to package directions; drain and rinse in cold water. Place in a large bowl. Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Pour juice over the spaghetti; stir in apples. Toss gently; drain.

Stir in the egg mixture and pineapple. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Fold in whipped topping just before serving. Garnish with walnuts and cherries. Makes 12-24 servings.

Aug. 5, 1948: The first of the free public movies sponsored by the Marion Merchants last Saturday evening drew an exceptionally large crowd of children as well as adults. More loudspeakers are promised for this Saturday to enable people to hear while sitting in their cars.

It's zucchini squash season! (My favorite recipe is in our Legion Cookbook #2).
