Missing Sodus Another really hot summery week. Always keep track of the kids and elderly. Sometimes both groups forget to keep drinking water. Alcohol does not hydrate you, in fact, it does just the opposite. We came out to the Olde Tyme Country Faire and of course as you wander around you find all kinds of things you just need to have (but didn't know when you went to the bank to take out money that you would need them). So, next year, I am taking out all kinds of money... save out a whole paycheck and go crazy. There were so many things to chose from: beautiful wind chimes. There were at least six of those I would have needed. There was a place called Lavendar Lane and the scents coming from the tent were heavenly. There was a small dog in a pink stroller, dressed in a blue tee shirt. He got a lot of comments of, 'Oh, my gosh that's the cutest thing' and 'He's wearing a tee shirt!' and 'I have never seen anything so cute!' The Faire was fun and even though it did rain on Saturday and the Sodus Library had to lug all of those heavy books around, Sunday was a better day for both vendors and the patrons. I hope it was a big success and we can't wait to come again next year. Maybe that dog in the stroller will be there then, too. (Of course, he will. He goes everywhere there is fun in Wayne County, stroller or not.) August 4 - 6: Lake Yacht Racing Association's Annual Regatta - 10:30 a.m.; 100+ sailboats compete in three days of course racing on Lake Ontario. Great spectator viewing from the Sodus Point pier, Wayne County beach and Old Sodus Point Lighthouse. Activities and dinners at SBYC each evening. www.sodusbayyc.org Sunday Summer Concerts at Sodus Point Lighthouse Museum - 2 p.m. Featuring Tim Allen Banjo and Guitar. Bring a chair or blanket. Refreshments available as always and this Sunday you will probably be able to see some of the sailboats from the Yacht Race from earlier in the day. That would be pretty. Chicken BLT Sandwiches What could be better than BLTs? Chicken BLTs with the same great goodness and a chicken bonus!
2 teaspoons vegetable oil Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in oil 15 to 20 minutes, turning once, until juice is no longer pink when centers of thickest pieces are cut. Spread dressing on cut sides of buns. Layer chicken, lettuce, tomato and bacon on bottoms of buns. Top with tops of buns. We also stopped over to the Sodus Free Library to visit and to get some information about the Summer Reading Program. The library looks so cozy with lots of new books to share with family or to read alone. Wednesday brings Mrs. Garland from 7-7:30 p.m. and PJ Storytime. Mrs. Garland will read bedtime stories so make sure you are all comfy in your pjs and remember to bring along your stuffed furry friends. This club is for Pre-k and kindergarten children. Thursday from 1-2, the Ruby Team Reading Club gets their turn. With this club, Mrs. Garland reads stories. These kids are 1st grades -3rd. On Friday, two groups meet to do crafts with Sandy from 1-2; 1st through 3rd graders and the 4th grades and up....Then you have the weekend to read, read, read and on the 7th from 10:30 - 11:30 comes Story Hour with Mrs. Combes who will share stories and songs with the Pre-k and Kindergarten groups.
Between the heat and weight of the costume and the heat of the day, the library had to cancel Booker B. OWWL's appearance in the Kiddie Parade. They really appreciate the local ambulance squad, but don't know if they've had training to handle an owl with heat exhaustion! They are sorry for any inconvenience. Stop by the Library today if you'd like to see the costume, and to pick up a candy and a bookmark. Have fun. Enjoy your summery week and each other's company.
