Battle of the Bands this Sunday

The first Wayne County Youth Series, Battle of the Bands will kick-off Sunday at Long Acre Farms Sweet Corn Fest from 11 to 5.

Five bands will perform in the Big Red Barn for fans and Sweet Corn Fest visitors.

The bands are: Minor Impurities from Williamson, CMSM from Ontario, September's Sorrow from Sodus, Undefined from Gananda, and Captain Indigo from Ontario.

Judges from the music industry will be there (incognito) to judge bands on showmanship, use of allotted time and performance in the genre. Most bands have classified themselves as rock/alternative, while one claims more connection with the jazz/blues influence. The judges will reveal themselves and their scores after all the bands have finished their 20-30 minute performances.

Two top scoring bands will get free registration to the next event at the Wayne County Fair on August 19. All bands, including an additional band from Ontario/Gananda, Behind the Label, will continue the competition at the Wayne County Fair. There's still room for more bands.

To register your youth band for August 19 or September 8 (Marion Town Park) events, visit www.backbohne.com or call 315.576.0415.

Event sponsors include Coffee Creek Internet Cafe in Palmyra, Mainline Music in Wolcott - who will be donating all the electronic sound equipment, Braselton's Music and B and B Music Showcase in Marion, offering a showcase spotlight for one band at the conclusion of the series on their cable program, The Music Show. B and B will be present at each event to do sound checks and some videotaping.

Also sponsoring these events are Wayuga Community News, Wayne County Star, Wireless World of Marion, Big Dog Country 103.5, and the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway.

All events are open to registration for other youth bands.

'Bands do not need to be residents of Wayne County. I am looking for local youth bands, with members age 12 -19 who can perform a 20-minute set that will be judged,' said Deb Najarro, managing member of Back Bohne Business Support, LLC and producer of the series.

A $25 fee for each band is required for the County Fair and Marion Fest. Bands are encouraged to register online or by calling 315.576.0415. Prizes include exclusive gig on the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway, The Music Show, some cash, merchandise, and tickets.
