Sheep and a cow will be swinging to the beat this Sunday, along with goats, pigs, horses, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and geese that all need your support! Mark your calendar for August 20, pack up your lawn chairs and blankets and get ready to kick back for an afternoon of music and camaraderie at the Annual Cracker Box Palace Music Fest. The Fest runs from noon until 7 p.m. and promises to be one of this summer's premier events in Wayne and surrounding counties, offering something for everyone's musical tastes - a lineup of blues, reggae, rock, acoustic guitar, jazz, and more. If you're not familiar with The Palace, it's a not-for-profit farm animal haven located at historic Alasa Farms in Alton. It's home to 150+ animals who have been rescued from lives of unimaginable abuse and neglect, or taken in from people who, through their life circumstances, have become unable to care for them. Animals are provided veterinary care, put on a proper diet, loved and cared for, and when their bodies and souls are healed, they're available for adoption into appropriate homes. Most important, The Palace is a No Kill shelter; animals who aren't adopted are not euthanized (a.k.a. killed because theyre a burden). They're given the opportunity to live out their lives in safety and peace. The farm is staffed by volunteers, and funding comes through memberships, donations and grants. An outstanding lineup of musicians is donating time and talent to raise funds to support the farm: Mike Plouffe, Wayne Nayler, Frank Stepanek, Mootzie, Mark Hermann, Brian Graves, Mimi, Rhythm Dogs, and The Deep Blue are scheduled, and who knows what surprises? Food and beverages will be available; CBP volunteers will be selling hots, Joyce's BBQ will offer savory, smoky, delicious treats, and you can enjoy some of the best homemade ice cream around from Dar's Delights Ice Cream. You're also welcome to bring a picnic. You'll have a chance to bid on some great silent auction items, including GEVA Theater gift certificates and a foursome of golf and a dinner gift certificate donated by Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club. To date, there have been donations from the following merchants of gift certificates and goodies for raffles, with more coming in every day: Krenzer Marine, Mo's Dog House, Papa Joe's Restaurant, The Bay Street Restaurant, Stephen's Harborside Restaurant, 37 Restaurant and Cowboys Barr, Cooper's Cafe, Captain Jack's Tavern, Overboard Boutique, Naomis Salon Hypnotique; PJ's Salon, Rascals Bar and Grill, Missy Blues Wines and Liquors, Heluva Good Cheese, Sodus Point Trading Company and Gifts, Way Too Kewl, Little Things, The Normandy Inn, and you can be sure there will be lots more! Advance $5 tickets are available at Dar's Food Stop on Main Street in the Village of Sodus, and in Sodus Point at Stephen's Harborside, Zoots Food and Scoops, and the Overboard Boutique. Tickets will be available at the gate for $8. Your donation is tax deductible; checks should be payable to Cracker Box Palace. Cracker Box Palace at Alasa Farms is located at the corner of Shaker and Red Mill Roads, Alton, NY (Off Route 14 North from Route 104). Dont forget...The Palace's/Alasa Academy's Annual Clam Bake and Open House is on September 2. Just $9.50 gets you 2 dozen clams, 3 side dishes, and a beverage! Extra clams available for only 3 bucks a dozen. Apple races down Second Creek! Advance sale tickets will be available at the Music Fest or call 315.483.0132. Copyright
