Brown Butter Apple Pie wins contest

Gloria Reeves, of Ontario, won the 17th annual Wayne County Fair Pie Contest on Tuesday, August 15. Gloria competed with 40 other contestants for the title of Wayne County's Best Pie Baker and the $50 first prize.

Second place went to Barbara Hamilton of Palmyra with her Triple Berry Delight pie. Third place went to Allison Baker of Macedon with her fresh blueberry pie. Tom Duyssen of Walworth received 4th place honors with his apple pie. Fifth place went to last year's pie contest winner Tina Bebernitz of Ontario with her peach with almond crumble top pie. First time entrant Jean Roberts of Clyde took 6th place honors with her four berry pie.

Motts, a division of Cadbury Schweppes of Williamson, New York sponsored the 17th Annual Wayne County Fair Pie Contest. Motts gave all the contestants a potted plant. Immediately following the competition, Vans Auction Service of Marion auctioned off all the pies. Motts judge Paul Frey purchased the 1st place pie for $70. The auction raised over $600. All proceeds go towards Fair renovations.
