Christmann leaving Newark School District
By John Zornow

Bob Christmann Robert W. Christmann, Superintendent of the Newark School District since 1991, announced to the Newark Board of Education Wednesday that he was leaving the district to take another position.

This announcement came at an executive session after the regular board meeting.

Christmann's contract with the Newark School District expires on July 31, 2008. He previously served Newark District as assistant Supt. for Curriculum.

Christmann has been hired to be Superintendent for the Grand Island School District. He will assume that position by the end of December 2006.

This development comes on the heels of the October resignation by Robert Fogel, Assistant Supt. for Business since 1996, who left to take a similar position at Monroe BOCES in Fairport.

Faced with budget discussions, the Newark School Board, apparently divided on many issues, must now start the process of finding a replacement for Christmann, as well as Fogel.

At the Dec. 6 board meeting, it was announced that Frank Kerwin of Canandaigua has been hired as interim business manager.
