Citizens Bank helps Scarlet Thread Citizens Bank has awarded a $2500 grant to Scarlet Thread Ministries making it possible for the non-profit youth organization to provide an up to date computer lab for after school use. The computer lab is an important part of the Mill Street Youth Centers efforts to help at-risk kids improve academically. Citizens Bank, as a member of the community, looked to partner with other organizations that demonstrate active care for the health, well being and quality of life for the poor and at risk young people in our area. The computer lab will be an important tool for volunteers to use with students in the youth centers homework program, and the lab will be available for students to use for academic purposes during regular hours. Jay Roscup, Executive Director of Scarlet Thread Ministries commented, 'Without this grant we would not be making any significant upgrades this year, and several computers have malfunctioned beyond repair recently. We thank God for the timely aid given by Citizens Bank.' The Mill Street Youth Center, located in an old mill at 34 Mill Street in Sodus, is open after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6 p.m. and on average, 35-40 young people from an active list of 150 attend any given day. A homework room is provided and Masters level counseling is available through Agape Christian Counseling bi-weekly. Recreational activities including pool, foosball, ping pong, air hockey, board games and video games and outside activities include basketball, football, kickball and simple games of catch. Special field trips and off site events are planned on a regular basis and include community service projects, events at local churches and recreation such as bowling.
