Young adult ministry in Newark A new study by The Barna Group 'shows that despite strong levels of spiritual activity during the teen years, most twenty-somethings disengage from active participation in the Christian faith during their young adult years, and often beyond that. In total, six out of 10 twenty-somethings were involved in a church during their teen years, but have failed to translate that into active spirituality during their adulthood.' In an effort to reach this often overlooked age group, Newark Baptist Fellowship Church continues to hold a young adult oriented worship service the last Saturday night of each month. Through music, drama, preaching and fellowship, 18 to 30-year-olds have the opportunity to connect with other young people who want to maintain spiritual activity or who are searching for answers. This will be especially advantageous to young people who are home from college. On Saturday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m., guest speaker for the Young Adult service will be Dr. Bob DeWitt, founder and director of the Solid Rock Youth Ministry. His ministry focuses on reaching America's youth with the Good News that Jesus is the answer for the void in their lives. Rev. DeWitt is a dynamic speaker as well as musician. Drama and music will be provided by the NBFC Praise Team, and a time for food and fellowship will follow the service. Although the service is young-adult oriented, everyone is welcome to attend. Newark Baptist Fellowship Church is located at 401 Stuart Avenue, on the northwest side of Newark.
