Healy, Stirpe announce retirements
A World War II veteran, Healy was one of a handful of Democrats to sit on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors during his tenure. He decided not to run for the 1998-'99 seat. He was appointed to be Election Commissioner in 1999, replacing former Newark Mayor, Dr. Milton Elzufon. December 19, the County Board of Supervisors issued a Proclamation of Appreciation. The proclamation and a personal tribute were read by Huron Supervisor John Young, who heads the Board's Veterans' Committee. Following the presentation, Healy said, 'Thank you, but where I come from, that's a lot of malarkey.' He received applause. Healy's replacement will be appointed at the County's January 2 Organizational Meeting. The position is part-time. The current GOP counterpart to Healy's post is former Town of Ontario Supervisor, Dick Clarke.
A Lyons resident and veteran of the Korean Conflict, Stirpe had owned and operated the Wayne County Star newspaper, and served as a police officer in both the villages of Lyons and Palmyra. His proclamation and tribute were read by Galen Supervisor Leo Jenkins, who heads the Board's Personnel/Salary Committee. Following the formal presentation, good friend and Butler Supervisor Dave Spickerman assured the 72-year-old Stirpe that the Nursing Home is a fine facility and showed him one of the state-of-the-art wheelchairs available. Jennifer Mortier from Stirpe's office will serve as Interim Personnel Director. Also retiring from the County workforce is Veterans Service Agency Director Tom Furgeson. The Board will advertise to fill the part-time position. Copyright
