Christmas dinner in Newark Continuing a 34-year tradition, Together in Christ, the group of Newark churches that works together for the community's good, invites everyone to the Community Shared Christmas Dinner. This will be on Monday, December 25, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, South Main Street in Newark. This is a wheelchair and handicapped accessible facility. Each year the theme is 'Don't Spend Christmas Alone.' Christmas can be a lonely and depressing time for many people. Whether it is because of the loss of a loved one, or you are recently new to the community, family and relatives live far away, or weather has changed your plans to be with those you had hoped to visit or you had hoped to have join you. There are those who have no means of preparing a meal because they live in a room with no kitchen facilities. For some it is a time they want to share with others in a caring, giving way. This dinner meets the needs of many people, whether it be helping, sharing or giving, the rewards are personal. Everyone receives a gift donated by the community and a poinsettia, provided by local florists to decorate at the dinner. The poinsettias go home with the people who attend the dinner. Meals are delivered to shut-ins and transportation is provided in Newark and Arcadia for those who do not have transportation or are unable to walk the distance to the dinner. The dinner offers food, friendship, fellowship, love, caring and sharing. If transportation is needed in the Newark area, call Paul Murphy at 331.3255; for meal delivery if you can't get to the dinner, call Regina Krolak at 331.5933. Cash donations can be sent to TIC Community Shared Christmas Account, c/o Heather Smith, 2700 Cambier Road, Newark 14513. Help is needed at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 23, to prepare the meal, and set up from 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, and to finish the meal, serve and assist in clean up, and to provide fellowship with those who need someone to talk with Christmas Day. Anyone interested in volunteering Dec. 23 or Dec. 25 or both days, call Krolak at 331.5933. She said, 'You will enjoy the team who prepares the event and the people who come. Participating in this event will make your Christmas truly special.' Copyright
