Let's not forget the Friday Night Roast Beef dinner on February 10 at the Marion Memorial Legion Post. Serving begins at 5. The dinner is served family style with refills upon request.

Operation Gratitude needs your support and Marion Memorial Unit 1430 Auxiliary are asking for your used cell phones or empty ink cartridges where tickets are sold. Support our Troops by dropping off all unused cell phones and printer heads at the Marion Pharmacy, Shurfine or to the ticket seller this evening at the Legion. The cell phones will send $30 each and the printer heads $2 to Operation Gratitude for packages sent overseas. Operation Gratitude sent 30,000 Holiday Care Packages to men and women currently serving overseas.

Emily Verstraete has been named as one of 100 exhibitors at Drexel University. Her photography was chosen out of 2000 entries.

The annual Spelling Bee was held January 31. Seventh grade winners: Jordin York, Mitchell Schaffer, Jaimie Adriaansen, Nate Sweet. Eighth grade winners - Austin May, Stephanie Brannan, (tied for 4th place) Alison Morris and Tina Grassi.

Dear Dan: Happy Birthday on the 9th. We did get a little sprinkling of snowflakes, but lately the sun comes out and melts it all away! I know that would make you happy.

Between being called 'good looking' and 'looking good' are about 20 years.

On February 14 the Marion Museum will be open from 2-4 p.m. with an exhibit of Early Valentines, Advertising Fans, Holiday Post Cards, and Friendship Cards. In earlier days, each valentine was carefully signed, never with the maker's real name, but always with 'Guess Who?' Taking great pains to print the letters in a slanted backhand lest our handwriting betray our identity.' We bundled against the night chill in scarves, caps, jackets, mittens and boots, covering the neighborhood. Hurrying up and down the block, we deposited our missives on each front porch. We then either rang the doorbell if there was one, knocked or stomped loudly on the porch. In any case, we then ran.'

February 15, 8th Grade Planning Night, 6:30 p.m. in the High School cafeteria

'A parent is someone who gives a lecture on nutrition to a kid who's reached 6 foot 4 by eating potato chips.'

Odds are you've received Sweethearts Conversation Hearts on Valentine's Day. For more than a century, New England Confectionery Company (NECCO) has come up with some of the sweetest ways to say 'I love you.' Every Valentine's Day the company presents new messages on the candy, but some of the original sayings, from the more than 100 that have been in circulation since the hearts were first factory-produced in 1902, are still in use. These classics include 'Kiss Me', 'Sweet Talk', and 'Be Mine'.

January 27, Gordon Adriaansen in his Dutch Ochterhack costume and wooden shoes and I in my Vriesland dress were invited to come and bring articles and pictures of the Netherlands to the Gananda Elementary School. Warren Bushart, cafeteria manager, did the inviting and was entertaining the 4th graders and teachers with foods from Holland. Students were treated to Dutch Lettuce, Reuzel Bollen with brown sugar and Soscyzen. Young and old alike, got to try these foods. Some would have preferred peanut butter and jelly, I think. Questions were asked and answered.

Wayne County High School Basketball Players of The Week included Nichole Clark. Clark had eight points vs. East Rochester and 14 points vs. Clyde-Savannah.

First Eucharist classes are beginning soon. If you would like your child to make the sacrament, please email Pam at pammck@rochester.rr.com or call Kathy at St. Gregory's, 926.4323 ASAP. All registered participants should have received a letter by mail including an interview time and a schedule.

TIC Can Drive - TIC members were handing out plastic bags after Mass on Sunday. We are asking that you return these bags on February 12 filled with cans and bottles from your Super Bowl gathering (or just from sipping throughout the week). These donations will be used to help fund upcoming TIC events and outings. We greatly appreciate your donations provided for our youth members. Please support the Sr. TIC students in their efforts on behalf of the Marion Food Pantry. We need adult volunteers to assist them at the Pantry occasionally as well as contributions of food.
