learn more! Perkins earns D.A.R. Award

The Col. Wm. Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter's of the American Revolution is pleased to announce that Miranda Perkins is the winner of the local D.A.R. American History: Ben Franklin Essay Competition.

She is a 5th grader in Mrs. Colleen Bezant's class in the Lyons Elementary School. Alan Nesbitt, also a 5th grader in Bezant's class, placed second with his essay.

'This is the second year that the Col. Wm. Prescott Chapter has offered the American History award at this grade level,' said Mrs. Jane DeCracker, chapter chairwoman for the local level of the American History Essay Competition. 'Participants could be 5,6,7 and 8 graders. The judging was based on historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of material, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness.

Miss Perkins' essay, entitled: Ben Franklin, More Than A Revolutionary, has been forwarded on to the next level of competition in anticipation of possible State, then National recognition and awards.
