I've just been spayed! Tuesday is Spay Day

Spay Day USA will be February 28.

This is a great opportunity to help a friend, neighbor, or relative who may not be able to afford to have their companion animal fixed.

Humane Society of Wayne County will be drawing the names of two people who will win a free spay or neuter for their companion animal.

To be entered into the drawing you must be eligible to qualify for assistance under the HSWC Low Income Spay/Neuter Assistance Program.

Call the shelter at 946.3389.

The names will be drawn on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the shelter and you need not be present to win. So, hurry, all entries must be received no later than 10 a.m. on the day of the drawing.

The Sad Reality of Pet Overpopulation According to Doris Day Animal Foundation

Two unaltered cats and all their descendents can theoretically number 420,000 in just seven years.

Two unaltered dogs and all their descendents can theoretically number 67,000 in just six years.

'No homes for littermates' is one of the top ten reasons people relinquish their cats and dogs to shelters.

Top reason why cat guardians and dog guardians give for not having their pet altered is that they simply have not bothered to do it yet.

An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year. That is one about every six and one half seconds.

Operating a shelter is difficult for the very dedicated and caring staff members who must struggle daily with the consequences of pet overpopulation.
