Coin Club meets Jan. 4

Jerry Muhl of the Rochester Coin Club will speak at the January 4 meeting of the Wayne County Coin Club.

This will be at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 200 East Union Street, Newark. Mulh will talk about the coinage of the Philippines, most of which was struck by the United States mints.

Annual dues to join the Coin Club are $5 a year.

Muhl is a long-time collector of coins as well as a researcher of them and has been published in many of the leading numismatic publications such as the Numismatist, the monthly magazine of the American Numismatic Association.

His writings have also appeared in the NY Historical Society Journal, World Coin News, Bank Note Reporter and Rochester History.

The meeting will conclude with an auction of numismatic items. While the offerings are unknown until the night of the meeting they usually include U.S. coins and paper money as well as foreign coins, medals and wooden nickels.

Anyone interested in the collecting and the preserving of any type of items used for money, be it coins, bills, tokens or even wooden nickels as well as the medallist art, is welcome to attend the meeting. Generally the meetings are over by 9 p.m., so children are welcome to attend.

Most meetings are attended by at least three members who are not only collectors but have been dealers for many years. They are qualified to both appraise and are anxious to buy numismatic items.
