Missing Sodus

Even though it was nice having the kids home and they needed the break, it's also nice to have them back into their routines so we can go back to our own lives. I will admit I like having the TV set back so I can watch my special shows and not have to worry about lunch meal and what to fix kids who don't like the things you offer. Change may be a good thing, but routine is also a good thing.

The next Sodus Chamber meeting will be January 12 at Nick's Family Restaurant starting at 6.

Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven: February 11 - Gala Snowflake Ball, at Cutter's Fine Food and Spirits. Reception begins at 5. Formal attire, black tie optional event. Contact us for details and reserve your spot early! Bed & Breakfast Inn & Limousine Service providers available.

At the Kraft Shack:

Thurs., Jan. 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. When the holidays are over, this will be great decoration for the rest of winter. Three wooden snowmen, tree, and 'Winter Welcome' sign. $19 includes all.

WILTON CAKE DECORATING COURSE I: Four nights Tues., Jan. 17, Thurs., Jan. 19, Thurs., Jan. 26 and Thurs., Feb 2; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Learn how easy it is to make beautiful cakes for friends and family. $45 includes Course I kit; some other supplies are extra.

Betty Crocker does it again. I can remember how much I loved my mom's chicken and dumplings on Sunday afternoons.

Quick Chicken and Dumplings

1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup frozen green peas and carrots
1 cup cut-up cooked chicken
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed creamy chicken mushroom soup
1 cup Original Bisquick mix
1/3 cup milk
Paprika, if desired

1. Heat 1 1/2 cups milk, the peas and carrots, chicken and soup to boiling in 3-quart saucepan, stirring frequently.

2. Stir Bisquick mix and 1/3 cup milk until soft dough forms. Drop dough by 8 spoonfuls onto chicken mixture (do not drop directly into liquid). Sprinkle with paprika.

3. Cook uncovered over low heat 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer.

And for later with tea or coffee, Kraft has an idea for you:

Cinnamon Pull-Apart Bread

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
3 cans (7.5 oz. each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted
4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 to 2 Tbsp. milk

PREHEAT oven to 350F. Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl; set aside. Cut each biscuit into quarters; roll in cinnamon-sugar. Place half of the biscuit pieces in greased 12-cup fluted tube pan; drizzle with half of the butter. Top with remaining biscuit pieces, then drizzle with remaining butter. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar.

BAKE 40 to 45 min. or until golden brown. Cool in pan 5 min.; invert onto serving plate.

BEAT cream cheese and powdered sugar in small bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add 1 Tbsp. of the milk; beat until well blended. Beat in enough of the remaining milk until glaze is of desired consistency. Drizzle over warm bread. Serve warm.

Wayne County is being awfully quiet this week (everyone recovering from the Holidays).

Mary Rought and Tim Kelly are enjoying their new puppy, a copper-colored standard poodle named Riley.

Michelle and Bryan Trembley are enjoying their mini pinscher mix, Kriss Kringle. I understand his Aunt sent him a few sweaters that Oscar had outgrown.

Diane and Tom Phillips will be moving into their new home in Webster any day now... just waiting for the closing date.

If you have a new puppy or news you'd like to share, please send it along to

Ralph is being very quiet in Florida. Must be enjoying the sunshine. (Something we haven't seen in a long time.)

Jake Spencer is in Guam. Probably seeing way too much sunshine and no rest from the heat.

Have a great week. Try to stay dry. You may not need sunglasses for a while, but do enjoy the time you have with your families. Movie night on Saturday nights is a thought and game day on Sunday afternoons.

Some fun movie picks:

  • Kicking and Screaming with Will Farrell
  • Monster in Law with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez
  • Bewitched with Will Farrell and Nicole Kidman.
  • Wedding Date with Debra Messing

(Now you know what we did on New Year's Eve.)

Have a great week. Pay no attention to the weather (you'll be having fun together inside).
