Here are ways to make ourselves happier by making others happier in the resolve of a new year ... to brighten somebody's day, and extend goodwill, and improve the world around you:

1. Allow somebody to go ahead of you in a check-out line
2. Put coins in an expired parking meter
3. Run errand for a friend or neighbor
4. Pay somebody an authentic compliment
5. Share some positive news
6. Pick up litter
7. Leave a more generous tip than usual
8. Tell a good clean joke
9. Let another car take the coveted parking spot
10. Hold the door open for people behind you
11. Offer to walk a dog for somebody short on time or energy
12. Give somebody a sincere smile
13. Befriend a person new to your work, school, neighborhood or parish.

JANUARY 16 - NO SCHOOL - Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday

In 1915 - the average family income in the United States was $687 a year.

The January meeting of the Marion Historic Association will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in the Marion Municipal Building at 7 p.m. Projects will be discussed, such as the rewiring of 'Jennie's House' and the placement of signs designating our outlying cemeteries.

The Marion Museum will be open for viewing. Come, and see the newest collections and exhibits, before we begin to move some things to new location for our museum home.

'The longest word that can be typed with the right hand is 'lollipop.'

The latest acquisition to our Museum are two antique, handmade candle snuffers, found in the rafters of the old Baptist Parsonage on North Main St. These were probably used in the earliest Baptist Church before the coming of electric lights.

'There are plenty of rules for attaining success, but none of them works unless you do.'

Please call me with your news - or is it true that there is nothing going on in Marion?
