Lyons churches collecting food

On Sunday, February 5, millions of people will be gathered around television sets to cheer their favorite football team on to victory. Many will be at Super Bowl parties enjoying food, festivities and fun.

There are also many folks who will go hungry that day.

The Inter-Church Council of Lyons is encouraging people to donate cans of soup or to make a monetary donation as a way of reaching out to the needy in our community.

The churches of Lyons will be receiving donations the week of February 5-12. All donations will go to help the Lyons Food Pantry and the Lyons Lunch Program.

The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel, President of Inter-Church Council, wrote: 'Last year the Lyons Lunch program served more than 13,000 free nutritious meals to those in need. The Lyons Food Pantry provided emergency food for 1142 people in our community.'

For those of you in other communities, we urge you to connect with your local church or house of worship or to make a donation to the local food pantry in your area.

Let's work together so no one goes to bed hungry. As you enjoy the Super Bowl football game, be mindful of those who are without even a bowl of soup.
