Retired teachers meet in Ontario

The Wayne County Retired Teachers' Association met for lunch at the Ontario Golf Club last month. They enjoyed coffee and doughnuts during the social hour while enjoying music played by retirees Don Hunt on the keyboard and Bob Wadsworth on his violin.

President Jay Ramsey welcomed Wayne County retirees and several guests from the Central Western Zone of New York State Retired Teachers. Carl Hutchinson gave a touching memorial to Barrie Fleegel. Barrie was actively involved in the Wayne County Retired Teachers (Past President) as well as the Central Western Zone and the New York State Retired Teachers. He passed away on April 5 of this year.

Carolyn Adriaansen, Marion Town Historian, presented an interesting and informative program about Cobblestone Buildings. Her display included several books and photographs of cobblestone buildings in our area. She even brought a few stones from Lake Ontario to show an example of the kind used in building these homes.

The business meeting included an update on federal and state legislation. Also, an election of officers was held. Officers for 2006 - 2007 are:

  • Ellen Barnes, Sodus, President
  • Tom DeYoung, Newark, Vice President
  • Penny Shaw, Marion, Secretary
  • Marjorie Hunt, NRW, Treasurer.

Greetings were received from State and Zone Officers Doris Whitney, Judie Byndas, and Pat Dick.

Lunch was served by the Ontario Golf Club. Gananda High School Select Choir under the direction of Kevin Farnsworth entertained the group during lunch. Their performance was outstanding and enjoyed by all.

The Retired Teachers' Association will meet again in October.
