Wolcott man hired as dune steward Joe Stredny of Wolcott is working as a Lake Ontario dune steward this summer. He is part of a 10-person crew managed by New York Sea Grant in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and New York State Parks. The stewards serve as goodwill ambassadors, promoting environmentally-sound recreational use of the river and lake areas. Stredny is a SUNY Maritime College junior majoring in Marine Environmental Science. He has experience as an intern in forest maintenance and as a deckhand at sea. Copyright
