Public Health clinic advises parents

Up-to-date shots are required for kindergarten entry. Please check with your pediatrician to see if your child's shots are up to date.

In addition, students born on or after 1/1/94 who are enrolling in the 6th grade must be immunized against varicella (chickenpox).

New this year, a booster for pertussis (whooping cough) is available as part of the tetanus and diphtheria booster which is recommended starting at age 12 and above.

There have been two outbreaks of whooping cough in Wayne County in the past two years, so the booster shot is important for adolescents.

Have your child immunized at your pediatrician's office. If this is not possible, Wayne County Public Health offers a children's clinic Aug. 16, 2-5 p.m. and Sept. 20, 3-5 p.m.

In September, clinics will be held the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 3-5 p.m. The clinics are walk-in clinics (first come, first served). Please bring your child's immunization record. A parent or guardian must accompany the child.
