Newark man arrested for child porn possession

On April 12, 2006, acting of a report of suspected child pornographic activity Newark Police executed a search warrant at 608 Silver Hill Road, Newark. Police seized a personal computer and a quantity of data storage discs from the resident, Mr. Barry J. Stapsky, age 59.

Today, acting on an arrest warrant issued by Village Justice Daniel Barrett, Newark Police arrested Mr. Stapsky at his residence, charging him with one count of the felony “Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child.”  Police allege they found numerous lewd and pornographic images of children on Mr. Stapsky’s hard drive and on various CD discs. 

Mr. Stapsky was arraigned by Village Justice Daniel Barrett and is being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of  $5000/$1000 bail. He is scheduled to re-appear in Village Court on August 2, 2006.

Police Chief Bogan, of the Village of Newark Police department, said “We were able to resolve this situation quickly because of our ability to conduct computer forensic examination in house. Investigator John Clingerman has pursued various training and certification on his personal time. His ability allows us to respond to the priorities of our community instead waiting for services in time frames addressing the priorities of State or Federal Agencies. Computer crimes such as pornography and identity theft are in their infancies but are a rapidly growing threat. Being able to address these issues locally is a huge service to our citizens.”
