June 3 open house at Rod & Gun Club The Newark Rod and Gun Club is holding an open house June 3 (rain date June 4). Workshops will be offered by club members for beginning and experienced shooters in the areas of Trap, Skeet, Rifle/Pistol and Black Powder. Basic archery instruction for youth will be provided by the Guns and Clovers 4-H Clubs certified instructors. The club, organized in 1940, is proud to have produced five All American Shooters. Harold Contant, Dick Smith, George Lehr, Andrea Lehr, and Craig Parsons each hold All American Skeet Shooting status. Craig Parsons holds several world records. Make it a family affair, learn about and experience the 42-acre facility which includes four trap and four skeet fields, 25/50-yard pistol range, and 100/200-yard rifle range. Memberships are available and open to the public. From a first try, to sharpening your skill for hunting season or joining a league, there's something for everyone. Coffee/donuts and summer lunch food/beverages will be available. The open house will be from 9 to 3 at the Club, 5704 Tellier Road, Newark, just west of the Newark Hospital.
