birdsMissing Sodus

My little bird family has become just that - a family with two little birds. I watched them through it all and now the babies are bumping around the poor mother from underneath. They are anxious to see their world and aren't interested in her keeping them warm anymore.

The other day they were so active that I thought I might get to see them learn to fly. When I took Sarah out, I noticed the mother was gone so I peeked into the garden box and it was completely empty. Not so much as the flip of a wing. And though I was confused as to how I could have missed such an important moment, the father bird kept coming back wondering where his family was as well.

From the Sodus Free Library:

New Book Club Starting: As part of working toward their Girl Scout Silver Awards, Jessica Jonasse and Ana Abkarian are starting a book club for girls aged 12 to 14. Stop by the check-out desk to sign up.

Bill Bolling presented us with many facts about identity theft, and provided several tips on how to avoid it during our Monday Books-Sandwiched-In. Just a reminder: if you would like to hear the topic covered in more depth, or if you were unable to attend the noontime program, Bill will return at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, for an encore presentation. Call 483.9292 or stop by the Library for more information.

June 3: Classic Motorcycles / Hot Rods: The 2nd annual display of a large number of Classic Motorcycles dating back as far as to 1914? This year we also will have a Hot Rod Display. Both are in the Town Center of Sodus Point. Minutes from this unique rare display you have also the opportunity to see the Antique Boat Show sponsored by the Sodus Bay Yacht Club.

Saturday, June 3 there's also a Flea Market in Sodus Point: The Sodus Point United Methodist Church will be hosting their second annual Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held on the front lawn of the church on Ontario St. There will be hot dogs, soda, doughnuts and coffee available to purchase. Proceeds will support the missions of the church.

And don't forget the Sale Around Sodus Point, which is hosted by the S.P. Neighborhood Association. For more information or donations please contact Betsy Wahl at 483.4830. (I remember when she was my son's teacher, and when her son was in the Middle East I had written to him. He had sent me great pics... small world)

The Williamson Library has something for everyone:

Stop in and see the Teen Art Gallery...works of art by local kids!

Want to get your 'two cents' in about the library and the teen area? Join the Teen Advisory Group. See Mrs. J about it.

'Programs Sandwiched-In' are the third Wednesday of the Month at noon. Call to reserve a lunch! Volunteer to help, set up, clean up or provide goodies!

At the library on June 21: Lighthouses with Jane Seymour. Optional lunch may be reserved by calling 589.2048 by 8 p.m. on the Monday before the program.

Well, we certainly can't complain that Memorial Day weekend was too cold or nasty. It was gorgeous, wasn't it? There were so many years that I would plan outside parties only to end up bringing everything back into the house because it was too cold out. This year there was no party and it was beautiful.

Have a great week. The kids will have summer vacation soon. Sometimes, if you can have things for them to do, they are less likely to complain they are bored. Kids are used to being scheduled and, if they don't have some suggestions, they don't know where to start. There are great workbooks, puzzles and small games, craft ideas, and of course books and movies. The Libraries can help out with the Summer Reading Programs, as well.
