Missing Sodus

it's water again

What nice weather we have been having. The weeds are really strong this year, or perhaps I am just getting older and weaker. Weeding seems to be quite the workout. Just think of the amount of calories that you are burning while you are doing it. I much prefer going to the garden store picking out the plants and the fun of planting them. Weeds just spoil the masterpiece.

Saturday, June 10 and Sunday June 11, from 10 to 5 is the Cracker Box Palace Animal Fair at Alasa Farms. 'Animal Faire' features not-for-profit animal shelters and rescues of all kinds, from farm animals to dogs and cats, wildlife and much more. Children's projects, vendors, craftsmen, hayrides, farm tours, fossil walks, games, food and fun!

On Monday, June 12 is the 14th Annual Habitat for Humanity Golf Tournament Fundraiser. Registration includes lunch, supper, golf and cart. Scramble start, many prizes. $125/golfer, $500/foursome. Ontario Golf Club. Call for 315.483.6744.

Tomorrow (Sat., June 10), there's a pulled pork dinner at the Pultneyville Fire Hall. From 4 to 7, you can dine in or take out for just $6.50 per person. You can phone your order in and then just drive up to get it. Call 589.8029. (There will be only 300 dinners available.)

The Williamson Garden Club is looking for volunteers to care for the downtown planters. If you want to help water and weed, e-mail

From the Sodus Free Library:

New DVD titles we have added to our collection include The Family Stone, Nanny McPhee, Munich, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Hoodwinked, Transamerica, Last Holiday, and Rumor Has It. The newest non-fiction DVD (which checks out for 21 days) is Bobby Flay's 3-disc Boy Meets Grill set. Access your OWWL account online to place a hold on any of these titles, or, if you prefer, call or stop by the Library and we'll do it for you.

Super Easy Chocolate Fudge Brownies

1 2/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 tbsp. water
2 bars (4 oz) unsweetened baking chocolate, broken up
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Microwave sugar, butter and water in large, microwave-safe bowl on high (100%) power for 4-5 minutes or until mixture bubbles, stirring once. (Or heat sugar, butter and water in medium saucepan just to boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.) Add baking bars; stir until melted.

Stir in eggs one at a time until incorporated. Stir in vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt; stir well. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased 13x9 inch baking pan.

Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky. Cool in pan. Cut into squares.

Jim Postier is busy working on the illustrations of a new book that sounds like it will be a fun one to read. As the book becomes closer to being completed, I'll let you know what it's called and when it will be on the shelves for you to see.

Since we are heading into summer months the libraries have different hours:

Williamson: Monday - Thursday 10 to 8:30; Friday 10 to 5; Saturday 10 to 2 (No Saturday hours mid-June to mid-Sept.)

Speaking of mid-June, the strawberries are out. The Apple Shed will be re-opening again within the next week.

So many fun things to do and not enough time to do them all. Enjoy the summer and all of the fun events you have chosen to do. We know when the weather is nice the time goes really fast. Have fun while it's here. Plan a picnic at the beach, read stories outside, go for walks and take in as much of the sunshine and fresh air as you can. Have a great week and remember to have fun.
