County won't cap the gasoline tax Although they missed the deadline to cap local tax on fuel sales, Wayne County Supervisors differed on the issue and will revisit it in September. Macedon Supervisor Bill Hammond expressed his disappointment that the board had not acted sooner in order to meet the July 1 deadline. The resolution before the board was to NOT cap the tax at eight cents per gallon. It stated that the County would lose $1,031,878 in revenue if they were to cap it and that a cap may have an impact on property taxes, to make up for that shortfall. Hammond said that not everyone is reimbursed for their business travel, and that it cost county taxpayers over $200 just to get all the supervisors to Tuesday's meeting. He not only favors the cap, he wants next year's budget capped at this year's spending. Savannah Supervisor Don Colvin said that to cap the tax would definitely be bad for property taxes, and that the county already has a rate that is too high. Colvin said that, rather than add to the burden, they needed to get the property tax rate below $8. Those who voted against a cap outweighed Hammond, Lucinda Collier (Rose), Kim Park (Wolcott) and John Young (Huron).
