Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Some of the kids are out of school for the summer. Just remember, kids are used to having a structured day, so if you can, try to add some reading time, maybe some workbook pages, time to play games. Some kids just are lost if they have to come up with things to do on their own. Don't forget the libraries will be having great reading programs with all kinds of fun programs, prizes and reading ideas to help you.

Mark your calendars:

July 3 - July 4 in Sodus Point: Monday, July 3: 10 a.m. Kiddie Parade starts at Village Hall; 7 p.m. Classic Car Parade; 9:30 RING-OF-FIRE; 10 FIREWORKS.

Tuesday, July 4: 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast on the Bluff (Lighthouse); 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Lighthouse 5K Run then Kiddies Run; 10 to 4 Fine Arts & Craft Show at the Lighthouse (Juried); SAILBOAT Race at SBYC; CONCERT at the lighthouse (GAP MANGIONE BIG BAND)

At the Sodus Library:

Books-Sandwiched-In: The book club ladies did a wonderful job during the Book sandwiched in program, sharing the history of their group and some of their favorite titles. They also compiled a list of all the books their club has read. If you were unable to attend today's luncheon, stop by the Library for a copy of their list - it's loaded with great suggestions for that next read!

(I'll ask Carol for a list of the Book Club Ladies names for you.)

Writing & Remembering: Children will learn the importance of preserving their memories in our next Community Reader program. Library Trustee Antje Dirksen-Post will read her published short story, Soup with Dumplings, and discuss the immigrant experience from a child's perspective. Antje's story is a memoir of her childhood, and is sure to be enjoyed by all school-aged children. Registration is not necessary for this free program, which will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.

News from the Sodus Chamber:

In an effort to help promote Sodus as a good place to live, work, shop, and visit, the Sodus Chamber of Commerce is again distributing 'Chamber Checks' during the Olde Tyme Country Faire week end July 21 22 and 23. The 'Chamber Checks' are good for a 10% discount at the participating merchants that will be listed on the back and the 'Chamber Checks' will be valid until the end of the year.

The Faire weekend will start on Friday night, July 21, with a Pet Parade hosted by the Cracker Box Palace along with an Ice Cream Social. On Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23, vendors will be at the Oscar Fuerst Ball Field on Greig St. in Sodus Point, as well as other activities around the Sodus Township.
